The tapes feature an aircraft aluminum case, alloy steel main shaft, and a nylon coated blade for added durability. The Spencer tapes with Release Nails are specialized logger's tapes. They have a flexible Dymax 19" extension which is designed to help protect the blade and endhook from kinking and breaking if rewound into the case too quickly.

Replacing them is a fairly simple process and can be done in the field with a small screwdriver. Refills come bare (without nails or an attachment screw), so be sure to order those parts separately if needed
